KIDS Gardening

Gardens are joyful, hands-on spaces where kids build skills, confidence, and connection.

Research consistently shows that youth who participate in gardening programs experience meaningful gains across academic, physical, social-emotional, and environmental outcomes, with especially strong benefits for children facing barriers related to food security, health, and access to experiential learning.

Kiwanis International partners with KidsGardening to promote youth gardening, offering toolkits and grants to teach children about nutrition, environmental stewardship, and responsibility. Clubs worldwide use gardening for service projects that combat food insecurity, such as community gardens, and provide hands-on, educational activities for children.

What Kiwanis Clubs Can Do:

  • Partnership with KidsGardening: Through this partnership, Kiwanis clubs have access to resources, grants, and educational materials from a leader in the youth gardening movement, fostering skills in personal well-being and community connection.
  • Community and Food Security: Many Kiwanis clubs create community gardens or install hydroponic systems, which can provide fresh produce to local food banks.
  • Educational Initiatives: Clubs install raised beds or hydroponic units in schools, libraries, early learning centers to teach children how food grows and develop a sense of responsibility.
