Governor’s Blog: Spring into Action!

April 8, 2024 – Spring has arrived! Are you ready for a fresh season of service and fun? I know I am ready for this rainy weather to be done but enjoyed seeing on social media the different projects that our clubs are doing across the District during the Easter holiday.   The smiles on the many children’s faces were priceless.  It was great to see so many projects completed! Here are few to highlight across the District.

What’s up next for Club Leaders?

We are halfway through this administrative year, and it is never too late to start planning for the future.  It’s time to think about holding your club’s annual meeting to elect your 2024-2025 club officers. As you know Kiwanis International bylaws require each club to hold an annual meeting, that includes the election of club officers for the next administrative year by May 15th.

Stepping up as a leader provides so many benefits. Being a club leader offers ability to build more connections with your club members and community, more meaningful impact, more learning experiences, and personal growth opportunities —all of which contribute to making the role enjoyable and fulfilling.  Considering running for a club leadership role!  Club leadership education will be available for new and continuing officers this summer in-person by region. Contact your regional trustee for more information.

What happened to the Kiwanis Magazine?

Several of you have asked about the Kiwanis magazine. The Kiwanis magazine has been converted to one smaller issue every October with the remaining being digital. Kiwanis shares content in several places, as members consume content in different ways Kiwanis has followed suit in this digital age. The digital content is sent to member through the following formats:

  • “Kiwanis Update” is a monthly email update that goes to all members, so it is critical that members have valid emails in the Kiwanis reporting system, which can be updated by club secretaries.
  • “Kiwanis Dateline” is sent to all leaders of the organization from the club level all the way to the international board of trustees via email.
  • Kiwanis.org website is a great place to see everything going on within the organization. We recommend members bookmark the news and features page to make finding these stories even easier.

Other digital channels for content is located on a several social media platforms:

The Kiwanis international “magazine” team continues to produce interactive chats with our leaders and members (Lunch with a Leader) and is working to turn these into a podcast series in the next several months. The “publication fee” (formerly known as magazine fee) supports all these efforts to distribute great stories and content worldwide, that I encourage members to read for new ideas and inspiration.

International Convention in Denver: Explore the Possibilities

Lastly, don’t forget to register for the Kiwanis International Convention that will be held in Denver, CO this year from July 3 – 6. The first 1000 Kiwanians to register will receive a free ticket to the Colorado Rockies baseball game on July 4th. There are still about 60 of those tickets remaining as of March 28th, so why not register today and hopefully you’ll receive one of those free tickets to enjoy the ballgame! The Pennsylvania District has been given a goal of 43 Kiwanians to attend the convention. We are currently at 28 registrations from Pennsylvania. If you’re considering attending, please make your reservations soon!

Thank you for all you do as Kiwanians in your communities for the kids.

Warm Regards,
