Governor’s Blog: Membership May

May 6, 2024 – April showers bring May flowers, and we’re excited for you to help blossom and grow your club during this Membership May! We have several activities happening this month to help support and celebrate our members!

Membership May

  • Governor’s Challenge was announced on my last blog. For clubs that add at least 5 new members during May, the club will be entered into a drawing for $100.00, a donation from me!  The only rule is that the new member must be approved by your club’s board and added between May 1-30, 2024. Let’s have some fun with this, who will accept my challenge?
  • Join us for a Mini-Membership presentation by James “Jim” Mancuso on Monday, May 13th, at 7:00 PM on Zoom. Jim Mancuso serves as the Membership Coordinator for North America 1 districts, including Pennsylvania. All Pennsylvania District club members and membership chairs are welcome and encouraged to attend. To register for this unique opportunity, go to https://bit.ly/PAVirtualLearning.
  • Club Membership Chairs were invited by our District Membership Coordinator, Matt Wise, to a PA Kiwanis Membership Chair Virtual Summit on May 20, 2024 at 7 pm. If you want to participate and your club does NOT have a Membership chair please contact District Chair Matt Wise.

Club Leadership Education

While we are all working on membership this month, this is also the time to be electing your new club officers!  Leading your club is an honor that can provide you many growth opportunities.  Consider running for a club officer and/or chair position. Your new / current officers are all invited to the upcoming Club Leadership Education (CLE) for the 2024 – 2025 administrative year.

The CLE this year will be in-person, conducted by your regional trustee, Lt. Governors, or certified trainers in each division or region. Training will run from June to August. It’s crucial, even for previous officeholders, as we’ll share updated district policies and new goals. When announced in your division, I urge your club officers to sign up to ensure you have a successful administrative year. Many Regions have already set their training dates, check here for updates, more information will be shared as it becomes available.

Explore the Possibilities in Denver ICON 2024

We already have 33 Pennsylvania Kiwanians registered to attend, almost to our goal of 43! Consider joining us in beautiful Denver and register for International convention by May 31st to take advantage of the early bird discount!  The District hotel is Homewood Suites in Downtown Denver a very short walk to the Convention Center. Attendance at the convention will give you a voice in the future of Kiwanis as consideration is given to a dues increase among other amendments this year. You can view all the proposed amendments at the KI Convention website

Take a Ride to Reading for 2024 PA/NJ District Convention

The Joint PA / NJ District Convention will be held at the Doubletree in Reading, PA from August 15 – 18. Your District Convention committee recently visited the convention hotel and would like to report the hotel and convention center are first class. You’ll want to register for this event as soon as the registration materials are available, which will be by the end of May. There are great speakers, variety of educational forums, a focus on youth homelessness, fun social activities and service projects for all to participate in!  Follow the fun on the District Convention Facebook Page.
