September 9, 2024 – September can provide a fresh start after the summer break, with the start of autumn and the academic year for many! This is a great time to reconnect with your service leadership programs that have come back to school and plan for the next administrative year while working to end the administrative year on a high note.
By now you have read my blog from August 26th that contained highlights from the combined District Convention in Reading. If you have not check out my past blog posts HERE. We appreciate the Kiwanians that took the time to complete the convention survey that was sent out to all attendees. Overall the feedback received was very positive and member provide recommendations on areas for improvement and future workshops.
Taking Aktion
Since District Convention, I had the pleasure to attend the Aktion Club District Convention on Aug 25th in Altoona, PA at Laurel Lodge. This was an incredible experience as Governor, and I was honored to be there and take part in their activities and meet several members from across the District. Special thanks to PA Aktion Club District Administrator Barb Byers and her committee members and friends that helped lead and support the weekend’s activities for the Aktion Clubs including Darlene Anderson, Karen Sears, Shawn Smith, Miranda Burton, Barry and Marlene Halbritter and Jeff Carter.
It was a thrill to see our 2025 International Convention Chair Shawn Smith, present to the Aktion Clubs the THANK YOU boards from 2024 International Convention in Denver, signed by Kiwanians across the globe thanking them for their efforts in making the bookmarks that were given out in Denver that was not only functional piece of art but a reminder to all to attend the 2025 District Convention in Pittsburgh next year June 25-28, 2025! If you have never attended an Aktion Club event, I urge you to seek out an opportunity to do so — it is a very rewarding experience that you will never forget.
Fall Administrative Reminders
As I said before let’s finish strong for this administrative year! Here are a few reminders for all clubs and officers.
CLUB DUES AND BILLING: Please remember to bill your members now, as the Kiwanis International dues increase takes effect on 10/1/24. It’s important that members pay their dues promptly, to ensure the club remains in good standing.
If a member wishes to discontinue or pause their membership, club secretaries must update the roster before October 1st. Failing to do so will result in your club being invoiced by KI, and the dues will become the club’s responsibility.
CLUB ELECTIONS: Again, I would like to remind each club secretary to enter club elections into Kiwanis Connect as soon as possible. As I write this blog there are 73 clubs that have entered their election results for the 2024 – 2025 administrative year. That is still only 55% of the clubs in the district.
When submitting election results, please include your Club Membership Chair. Starting October 1st, Immediate Past Governor Mike Coolbaugh will serve as District Membership Coordinator and needs this information to support club building efforts. Having a Membership Chair is key to strengthening and growing your club and the Pennsylvania District!
VIRTUAL LEADERSHIP EDUCATION: Don’t miss the final Leadership Education Session of the year on Monday, September 9th at 7:00 PM! Our very own Past Governor and District Webmaster, Sarah Zulueta, will present “Streamline Club Operations with Online Tools.” This session is open to all Pennsylvania Kiwanians, not just leaders. Join us and discover how to make your club run more efficiently.
Thank you for taking time to read my thoughts. I hope you continue to read these thoughts from Governor-Designate Tom Harp when he becomes the District Governor on October 1st as well.
Thank you for your service in your communities and helping to “Grow Membership for the Kids”. Remember we want to have growth in each division as well as the PA District this administrative year!
