Governor’s Blog: Revitalize Your Kiwanis Experience – Regionals Reimagined

Dec 4, 2023 – Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to connect with numerous passionate Kiwanians at three regional meetings – one via Zoom and two in-person. Engaging with these dedicated individuals has been truly inspiring, as we’ve exchanged valuable insights not only about our District but also about the diverse service projects that Kiwanis clubs provide in serving their communities. I want to thank the clubs that donated to the Governor’s project “Bucks for Books”!

Our trustees, Lt. Governors, and other leaders and speakers have dedicated significant time to preparing valuable programs, education, and insights for our Kiwanians.  I found that each regional presented content in different ways and did well in not presenting the same old same old.   It was unfortunate that three regional meetings had to be canceled due to insufficient pre-registrations, and a fourth was never scheduled.   Why do I mention this?   We have Kiwanians in 4 regions that sadly missed out on essential updates, networking opportunities and time to learn from others and share ideas. We don’t want to be the best-kept secret – if you don’t share what your club is doing, who will?

Let’s seize the chance to turn things around. Here are some ideas!  Maybe reschedule those meetings for early 2024, maybe add a service project component and/or a social?  Have you invited your local service leadership program leaders to take part?  I have seen firsthand how inspiring our youth leaders can be and how Kiwanians can also learn from them.  Being a Kiwanian is about more than just paying dues and attending club meetings; it’s about actively participating and contributing to the vibrant Kiwanis community. Together, let’s embrace this opportunity for positive change!

Consider the impact your club has on the community – if it didn’t exist, would your community even notice? The regional meetings are the perfect platform to discover service projects other clubs are successfully implementing, projects that could be adapted for your community. What would you like to see at the next regional meeting?  We would love to hear your ideas!

Let’s collectively reflect on this and make a commitment to actively participate in our regional events. Your involvement can make a significant difference in the success and vibrancy of our Kiwanis community. Together, let’s amplify our impact and celebrate the incredible work each Kiwanis club is doing across the district. It’s time to share, learn, and inspire one another in our shared mission to serve the children of the world while uplifting our communities.

Thank you for all you do for Kiwanis and your communities! I look forward to reimaging future regionals with you!

Warm Regards,

Governor Conrad
Pennsylvania District Governor
