With the Christmas and New Year’s Holiday approaching, my intrastate travels have slowed down. Instead, I had several Zoom meetings, including one involving the 2025 Midyear Conference, which is scheduled for Saturday, February 22 from 10 AM to 3 PM at the Holiday Inn in Grantville. We are very excited to have our District Midyear Conference IN PERSON for the first time since 2019. We have a dynamic program in store for all who attend. The theme is “Ready, Aim, Impact” and our Keynote Speaker and facilitator is Heather Kay. Registration goes live this week. Cost is $60, which includes lunch. Stay overnight Friday and/or Saturday for a special rate of $125 a night. We plan to gather informally in the “Winners Circle Saloon” for “Happy Hour” and entertainment. Social media posts are in process. Our goal is to have at least 80 attendees. Please plan to attend!
I had to focus more on my “home club” of Allentown these past two weeks. We had our annual Kiwanis Foundation of Allentown “Grant Awards Luncheon” on December 12, where we awarded over $9,000 in grants to 8 local non-profit organizations. Over 30 guests enjoyed a hot buffet lunch and musical entertainment by the William Allen High School Chorale. We also honored 25-year member Enos Martin with a “Legion of Honor” certificate and pin. The following day, our club held its 18th Annual Lehigh Valley Children’s Centers Christmas Party for over 150 pre-school children. Each child received two toys courtesy of “Toys for Tots” as well as a personal photo with Santa.
We continue to work towards building a new Kiwanis club in Penns Valley. Our committee met on December 17 to come up with a strategy to charter this club by the end of January, 2025.
And finally, on December 19 I was honored to visit the Kiwanis Club of Williamsport for lunch on the cusp of the Christmas holiday. President Chris Wallace welcomed me, and I had one last opportunity to moderate my “Rise and Shine” quiz! I also presented a District report to those in attendance. After that, I presented an official Governor’s theme mug to their longest-serving member of 51 years, Johnny Troisi. And I was bowled over by a very generous donation by the Williamsport club to my “Bucks for Babies” Governor’s Project.
This has been an amazing three months of my term as your Governor. I cannot thank all of you enough for being so kind in greeting me during my travels throughout the District. I am looking forward to a New Year of club building, club growth, amazing service projects, and Pennsylvania’s FIRST Kiwanis International Convention in June.
Have a wonderful Holiday Season, and a Healthy and Prosperous New Year.
And, let’s “Rise and Shine for the Kids” in 2025!
Best wishes,
Governor Tom
